Steps to write a blog post
Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started to write a blog post:
1 Choose a Topic:
Select a topic that you're passionate about and that resonates with your audience. For example, if you are a pharmacist and your expertise is in drugs and medicines. Then choose the topic to write a blog post related to the pharma industry.
Explore your expertise and interests for inspiration. When you choose the topic of your interest and expertise you can give answers and solutions.
A blog post is normally a solution to queries such as this post is the answer to the way to write a blog post.
Although it is not necessary. Suppose you are a storyteller then you can write stories in your blog post.
2 Research:
Gather information, statistics, and examples to support your topic. Use reliable sources and take notes to organize your ideas.
Research trending topics. Let's take the above example of a pharmacist. Research trending topics in the pharma industry.
Know what people are searching on the search engines like Google. You can do this on Google Trends or you can use other tools like Semrush, Ahrefs and a few others.
Research for keywords to be included in the heading of your blog post. This keyword is also included in your blog post as well as subheadings.
3 Write Outline of Your Blog Post:
Create a clear outline to organize your thoughts. Include an introduction, headings and subheadings, body paragraphs and a conclusion.
It will help you have a clear picture in your mind of your blog post.
Each section should have a clear purpose and flow logically.
4 Write a Compelling Introduction to your Blog Post:
Grab your readers' attention with an engaging hook or a thought-provoking question. Clearly state the purpose of your post and what readers can expect to learn.
Actually, the first impression the reader gets is from your introduction text. If the reader feels it engaging then he will continue reading otherwise he will exit from your blog post. It impacts the ranking on search engines of your blog post.
5 Develop the Body:
Expand on your main points with detailed explanations, examples, and evidence.
Use subheadings to break up the text and make it easier to read. Actually, readers don't like large text. When your text is broken into segments of headings and subheadings it is easy for the readers to digest. Moreover, it creates a continuous interest of the readers.
Keep paragraphs concise and focused on one idea. Use short and sweet sentences. A large paragraph and lengthy sentences affect the readability of the readers.
6 Incorporate Visuals:
Enhance your post with images, infographics, or charts to make it more visually appealing and easier to understand.
Make sure your visuals are relevant to your content and properly credited if necessary.
You may add a related video but keep in mind it may slow the loading time of your blog post. That also impacts the ranking of your blog post.
7 Add Links:
Include relevant internal and external links to provide additional context or resources for your readers.
Link to other blog posts, articles, or authoritative sources to support your arguments and improve SEO.
Internal links are links from one page of a website to another, and they are a key part of an overall SEO strategy.
They can help search engines understand the structure of a website and how its pages relate to each other, which can help with indexing and search rankings.
Internal links can also help users navigate a website and find what they need, which can increase the time they spend on the site and improve the user experience.
On the other hand external linking, also known as outbound linking, is the practice of adding hyperlinks to other websites from your own site.
In search engine optimization (SEO), external links can help improve a website's visibility and ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).
Moreover, by adding an affiliate external link to your blog post you can earn a commission.
8 Write a Strong Conclusion:
Summarize the main points of your post and reinforce the key takeaways for your readers.
End with a call to action, encouraging readers to share their thoughts, subscribe to your blog, or explore related content.
9 Proofread and Edit:
Review your draft for spelling and grammar errors, clarity, and coherence.
Make sure your writing is concise, engaging, and free of jargon. Consider asking a friend or colleague to review your post for feedback.
10 Optimize for SEO:
Use relevant keywords in your title, headings, and throughout your post to improve its visibility in search engine results.
Also, add keywords in meta descriptions and in the alt text of the images. Meta descriptions and alt text for images can also help improve your SEO.
Please note that don't over-optimize. This means don't use keywords more than 10-20 times in a blog post of around 1000 words.
11 Publish and Promote:
Once you're satisfied with your post, publish it on your blog platform.
Share it on social media, email newsletters, and other channels to reach a wider audience.
Engage with your readers by responding to comments and feedback.
Remember to stay true to your voice and personality throughout the writing process. Writing blog posts is a skill that improves with practice, so don't be afraid to experiment and refine your approach over time.
